Back up and restore your site

A backup is a full copy of the site at a moment in time. Take one before anything risky.

A backup captures the whole site. Restoring puts everything back to that moment, which also means discarding anything done since.

  1. Open the Backups tab#

From your site page, open Backups. Existing backups are listed with their dates.

  2. Create one#

Creating a backup takes a moment and does not interrupt the live site.

  3. Restore, when you need to#

Pick a backup and restore it. The site returns to exactly that state.

Restoring discards newer work

Everything done after the backup was taken is lost. If you are not certain, take a fresh backup first so you can come back.

When to take one#

Before regenerating with AI, before installing an unfamiliar plugin, before a PHP version change, and before any large edit. Those are the four that most often need undoing.
