Custom Development
AI gets you a real WordPress website in minutes. Custom development is what happens when your business needs something a generator cannot produce.
Both live on the same site. You never rebuild.
When you need this#
Most business websites are content and design problems: explain what you do, build credibility, make the next step easy. AI handles those well.
Some things are not content problems. They are business logic problems, where the requirements come from how your company actually operates and exist nowhere in any training data.
You are probably in that second category if you need:
- A booking system with real availability, staff calendars, deposits or cancellation rules
- A membership platform with tiers, gated content and renewals
- Marketplace functionality with multiple sellers, payouts or disputes
- WooCommerce beyond a straightforward catalogue: complex variations, tiered pricing, multi-jurisdiction tax, subscriptions
- A customer portal where people sign in and see their own data
- CRM or ERP integration, so the website stops being an island
- Payment gateway integration beyond the standard options
- API development, or a third-party API with logic of its own
- Workflow automation specific to how your business runs
- Reporting dashboards
- Industry-specific requirements: medical intake, regulated disclosures, compliance rules
If your project is on that list, no AI builder finishes it. That is not a criticism of the tools, it is what the category is.
Why it does not mean starting over#
This is the part that surprises people.
On a closed website platform, outgrowing the product means rebuilding somewhere else. Whatever the vendor supports is the ceiling, and there is no door past it.
Sitebefy generates a real WordPress installation. Your site is an ordinary WordPress site, which means a developer can extend it the way they would extend any WordPress site: custom plugins, custom post types, custom templates, real server-side code.
So the sequence works in your favour. Launch fast with AI, run the business, and add the custom piece when you actually need it rather than paying for it up front against a guess.
Generating first also makes the development cheaper. Your developer starts from a working site with real content and real structure, instead of a blank repository and a written brief. Everyone is looking at the same thing, which removes most of the expensive misunderstandings.
How it works#
1. Describe what you need. Open a request from your dashboard. Plain language is fine. What should happen, for whom, and what it needs to connect to.
2. Get a quote. We scope the work and send a price. Fixed price where the requirements are clear, hourly where the work is exploratory or open-ended.
3. Approve it. Nothing starts until you accept the quote. If it is not right, say so and we re-scope, or you cancel at no cost.
4. We build. A developer is assigned to your project. You can see the status as it moves.
5. It ships to your site. The work lands on the WordPress installation you already have. No migration, no second website, no change to the URL your customers know.
What this is not#
Straight answers are more useful than a sales page here.
It is not instant. Real engineering takes real time. A small plugin is days; a booking platform or an ERP integration is weeks. Anyone promising otherwise is describing something simpler than what you asked for.
It is not included in your plan. Custom development is quoted and billed separately from your subscription, because the work is genuinely different every time.
It is not a substitute for scoping. The clearer you are about what the software has to do, the closer the quote will be to the final number. Vague requirements are the main reason software projects go over.
It is not always the right answer. Sometimes an existing WordPress plugin already does what you need, for a fraction of the cost. If that is the case, we will tell you rather than quote you.
Start where you are#
If you do not have a site yet, start with AI. Generate it, launch it, see what your business actually needs after a few months of running it. Most of what people think they need on day one turns out to be different from what they need on day ninety.
If you already have a Sitebefy site and know what is missing, open a request from your dashboard and we will scope it.
